Thanks for the question! I get this one a lot, and it’s a difficult one to answer. There is a great quote from Chuck Close where he says, “Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work.” (I actually illustrated it a few months ago.) For me, it’s more a matter of saying, “It’s time to draw,” then sitting down and drawing. This is definitely not to say that all of my ideas are purely my own and effortlessly pulled straight from my brain. Sometimes I’ll overhear something on the street, or hear something in a song, or read something in an article or book, or see something in a movie that I can store away for later use. I think—and I don’t want to sound like a douche, but here goes—life is inspiration. If I’m actively paying attention to what is happening, then everything has the potential to inspire me to create.
